Waxing – an ancient practice
It is believed that the waxing procedure originated in Ancient Egypt. Egyptian women generally devoted a lot of time, effort and imagination to beauty care, but smooth, hair-free skin – in all parts of the body! – was one of the most important prerequisites for beauty. In the fight against hair, the Egyptians had two main weapons in their arsenal: empty tweezers, sharpened in the shape of a seashell, as well as a waxing mass made from beeswax and sugar.
Bikini waxing was a must-have in Ancient Rome – it's no wonder that the intimate parts of the bodies of beauties depicted in works of art are as smooth as children's.
Does it hurt?
First of all, the pain of the procedure depends on each individual's pain threshold - what is unbearable torment for one person, another does it with their own hands, whistling. One person may even let out a heartfelt "Ouch!" during a bikini waxing, while another won't go to the painful procedures without painkillers or cognac.
Logically, the thickness of the hair is also important - the more hair, the more painful. A lot is also determined by the emotional background of the day in question, whether I have eaten before (if only coffee is rumbling in my stomach, we are more sensitive to pain). Also the menstrual cycle: before menstruation, the procedure seems more painful, but immediately after - more bearable.
If I compare epilation with waxing, for us personally waxing is the winner: the pain during epilation is perhaps a little more moderate, but longer (I treated both legs from top to bottom for at least 45 minutes – so almost an hour of continuous ouch, ouch, ouch). When using wax, it is a few stinging stings, but – swish! – and that’s it. It must be said that self-waxing requires patience – how skillfully the unfortunate wax is removed from the leg also affects the sensations, but more on that later. Therefore, we recommend visiting professional waxers who use quality products and will offer pre/post care products, but if you still decide to do this procedure at home, then we will try to help you with our knowledge.

Before getting down to business
Before waxing, make sure that the skin is clean and dry. Do not use cream, oil or other greasy products! Make sure that the room is not too humid, that you have not just come back from sports, for example - it is more difficult to wax hot, sweaty skin. If the skin is not clean, acne or inflammation may form. Before the procedure, check the products here: https://nailinfinity.eu/index.php?route=product/category&path=144_392_393
About the procedure. Apply a thin layer of warm wax to clean skin, leave it for a moment, let it harden and remove it with a light but firm movement. The duration of the procedure depends on the wax, the area to be treated and your own determination. Find products here: https://nailinfinity.eu/index.php?route=product/category&path=144_392_394
After the procedure, you can apply cooling compresses, such as a cotton bag or a cool towel. It is often recommended to use disinfectants, such as tea tree oil, which helps get rid of wax residues, while softening and disinfecting the skin. There are also products available that delay the hair regrowth process and can be used for a longer period after waxing. Liquid wax
Available in various packaging – both in containers that need to be heated in a microwave oven or in a water bath, and in so-called cassettes that need to be heated with electricity. Comes with paper or fabric strips for tearing off or they can be purchased separately. The procedure is the same as in the salon: carefully apply the wax in the direction of hair growth, immediately apply the strip in the same direction, smooth it, wait a little and, holding it, tear it off against the direction of hair growth.
For women with thicker hair, this will be a better solution than cold wax strips, as it accomplishes its task much more thoroughly.
Suitable for: waxing legs, arms. Also convenient for waxing knees.
Hard wax
The hard wax is heated in a microwave or a special heating device, carefully and thoroughly applied with a spatula in the direction of hair growth. Then the wax is allowed to cool and harden and finally pulled off by grabbing the edge. The wax is hot, so during the procedure the skin warms up, the pores open, and the hairs are easily pulled out along with the wax.
Hard wax is usually used in the most sensitive areas: bikini, armpits, face.
In a way, it's also less messy, because the excess wax is easy to remove with oil. However, the mess is on the heating pot and all around it. And in terms of time, you also have to expect more consumption, because the wax has to be heated and then waited for it to cool down.
Pros: Relatively painless removal, no strips required, residue is easy to remove.
Sugar wax
The most gentle and painless method that can be used for waxing any area. Sugar wax should be heated to body temperature. You can use a microwave or a water bath for this purpose. Before applying it, make sure that it is liquid enough, but not too hot. Apply to a small area of skin and remove with cloth strips. The procedure takes longer, but is much gentler and more precise than the others. Only the hairs stick to this wax, not the top layer of skin, so the skin is not injured. This also means fewer ingrown hairs.
After trying it, I realized that I had found my favorite – with this method, the skin is really silky, the hair does not grow back (or grows back much less), and it hurts significantly less.
The procedure itself is just as tricky as with hard wax, but the pleasant result outweighs the disadvantages.
Suitable for: Sensitive areas, small areas of skin.
